The presidents of the major political groups in the European Parliament – EPP, S&D, Renew Europe, Greens/EFA and The Left – sent today a letter to the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, calling for a Commission proposal on corporate due diligence with the appropriate level of ambition.
The letter urges the Commission to ensure that the proposal takes into due account the legislative own-initiative resolution on Corporate due diligence and corporate accountability, adopted by the European Parliament in March 2021.
The signatories call for a proposal that imposes human rights and environmental due diligence obligations on all large companies and publicly listed and high-risk SMEs operating in the EU market, and that makes them accountable for harm they cause or contribute to.
In addition, the members of the European Parliament RBC Working Group sent a letter yesterday to President von der Leyen and 13 commissioners, reiterating some of the key demands of the European Parliament legislative own-initiative resolution mentioned above.
