Joint letter to ISO regarding risks of reopening ISO 26000 guidance on social responsibility

The European Coalition for Corporate Justice (ECCJ), the Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB), the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre (BHRRC) and Shift call on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to decline the reopening of ISO 26000, since revisions to these social responsibility standards and the establishment of a technical committee will divert attention from important legislative processes.

In a joint open letter to Mr. Sergio Mujica, Secretary General of the ISO, the four organisations acknowledge the significant step forward that ISO 26000 constituted, but express their fear that the introduction of further private standards at this point of time will risk causing confusion and undermining legislative efforts, at national, regional, and international levels, in relation to environmental and human rights due diligence.
