ECCJ STATEMENT Not simplification, but full-scale deregulation designed to dismantle corporate accountability

Days before its public announcement, the text of the Omnibus proposal got leaked and confirms ECCJ’s worst fears: a full-scale deregulation law designed to dismantle corporate accountability.

The Commission’s proposal is dramatic for CSDDD. It renders the directive meaningless, as it eliminates almost all protection of human rights, climate and environment. This proposal has nothing to do with simplification, but it is walking away from victims of corporate abuse and annihilates its own climate commitments under the Paris Agreement.

"Let’s be clear—this is not simplification, it is full-scale deregulation designed to dismantle corporate accountability and abandon the EU’s Green Deal commitments. This proposal signals that corporate profits matter more than people’s lives or the future of our planet, it is nothing short than a free pass for corporate impunity."
