Update: European and US National Action Plans on Business and Human Rights

The end of 2016 brings the release of several National Action Plans (NAPs) for the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).

The Swiss NAP was released on 9 December, but civil society organisations in Switzerland found its content disappointing.

“The published version of the NAP represents a step backwards compared to the draft submitted for consultation in June of this year,” said the Swiss Coalition for Corporate Justice.

For more info please see the Swiss Coalition for Corporate Justice Press Release.

Italy released its NAP early December as well. An English version of the document can be found at this link. You can read our comments on the draft version of the Italian NAP here.

The US NAP’s launch date is 16 December. For more information on the NAP’s content, and civil society’s reaction please follow this link.

Poland also released its draft NAP on 15 December, available in Polish only at the moment. A final version is expected mid-2017 and consultations with civil society on its content start January 2017.
